For the first time, on Thanksgiving, Detroit People Mover patrons will enjoy free rides as they attend downtown Detroit activities. Thousands of people are expected to travel downtown for the Thanksgiving Day parade, Detroit Lions game and winter fun at Campus Martius Park.
From 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., customers may enter fare gates free of charge at any of the People Mover stations. The Free Fare Day is sponsored by Michelin North America, Inc.
“Michelin has several great partnerships in the state of Michigan and providing free transportation on the Detroit People Mover for this busy Thanksgiving is something that we’re excited about,” said Ken Kruithof, Michelin North America. “Michelin is a mobility company and we hope this partnership helps people get around a little bit easier on this special day for the city.”
“We are excited that Michelin has stepped up to partner with us on one of the most important days of the year for the city of Detroit,” said Vetra Stephens, PTN-NRS marketing director. “We’re hopeful this will help ease traffic and allow people to park all around the city, utilizing the People Mover to reach their destination.”
Also for November 27 only, DDOT has coordinated with the People Mover layover of the Eastside routes at the People Mover’s Bricktown Station. Affected routes include #7 Cadillac-Harper, #10 Chene, #31 Mack, #34 Gratiot and #48 Van Dyke. DDOT customers should board these routes at Bricktown Station, located on Beaubien St., north of Larned.
Regular People Mover service hours will return on Friday, November 28. Please note that trains will not stop at Grand Circus Park Station, which is closed for renovations.
